REALLY GREAT ALBUM

After I Buy Wheelhouse Deluxe Version Limited Edition

Wheelhouse Deluxe Version Limited Edition

Paisley gets a little preachy, but overall this album is a winner. It fits the evolutionary path he has been on over the last few albums. If you have been a Paisley fan for years, it will seem familiar, while at the same time, it also seems brand new. Most of the songs are typically well-crafted, although the song getting a lot of press these days, "Accidental Racist," is not. Whatever the intention was, whatever the message is, it's just not a good song. It's too forced, and too long. But that's really the one misstep. There's plenty else to like here, such as the soaring "Southern Comfort Zone," the raucous "Outstanding In Our Field," and the bouncy "Beat This Summer." There are the wonderful ballads "I Can't Change the World" and "Tin Can on a String." And the hilarious "Harvey Bodine," which features Monty Python's Eric Idle.

Surprisingly, Paisley tones down his guitar work a bit on this album. There are fewer guitar fireworks than previous albums, but there is still lots of great playing. Normally, when I get a new Paisley album, I immediately pull my Telecaster guitar out and try to figure out what he's doing. Not on this album. I found myself reaching for the acoustic guitar for the first time. Everyone knows what he can do on an electric guitar, but his acoustic work is phenomenal on this album.

I skip over a song or two, but the rest is great. And I like where Paisley is going.

Sony Walkman MP3 Player Red

I really can't add any details about this little gem that haven't already been chronicled by others here. But this MP3 player is good enough I can't let it go without putting in a good word about it. And the bottom line is that unless you need a larger screen or you're stuck on Apple's iPod just for the name, you would do well to get yourself one of these. I've only used it for music playback and FM radio so far, and at these things, the Walkman excels beyond my expectations. I bought a factory refurbished unit for just $25 and I can say without hesitation that it's worth every penny of what a brand new one would cost. The sound quality is incredibility good, it has all the functions I want and then some, and it's very durable.....speaking of which, my first use of this involved jerking it out of a cup holder on a treadmill, dropping it hard on the moving belt, which promptly shot it off the back of the treadmill against a steel post. And it still works as if it were straight out of the box. Get one. I have no doubt that you'll be as impressed as I am.

NIX 15 Inch DPF

Why You Ned to Buy Hi Res Digital Photo Frame Memory

Hi Res Digital Photo Frame Memory

My 10-inch PARTSMART digital picture frame conked out after some years of constant use.

I found this 15 inch model on Amazon for a good price and received today. The setup was easy and everything worked as described. I set the brightness at seven as my room is on the dark side. I raised contrast and saturation to nine to give the picture some added kick. I had an SD prepared from the Compact Flash used in my old frame but, after almost throwing away the enclosed thumb-drive (careless), I ported my SD over to it (1.3 GB, ~1500 pix) and it worked like a champ. The thumb-drive is the smallest I've seen, just the bare essentials.

I don't plan to use the mp3 sound or mpeg4 video and didn't test for those.

Remote worked well from a few feet away, very responsive. Frame retains time and other settings during power removal. For how long I don't know.

Very satisfied with the display, doubt you could do better. Display quality remains good from most any angle.

I'll update this if any new information develops.

Hendrix train

Great Deals Of People Hell Angels

People Hell Angels

Jimi's "new" album of collaborations mostly with Buddy Miles and Billy Cox (not always at the same time) brings us some actual tracks that we haven't heard before. Surprisingly much of it is really worth it, although tons of Hendrix albums have come out, and this has possibly my favorite version of "Hear My Train a comin."

I will say that this album is probably more suited to the Hendrix fanatic than a "I'll listen to him when he comes up in the playlist" type person. But if you haven't bought a "new" Hendrix album since "First Rays..." or my favorite posthumous release "South Saturn Delta" then this is definitely the one to get. It's insanely hard to wade through his collection of albums especially on amazon, but this is Hendrix at his best with his later backing duo of Miles and Cox.

I won't go through the album track by track as it seems they already have above, but the thing I love about Hendrix with Cox and Miles is that they provided such a powerful backing to his music that was different than Mitchell and Redding. While not better or worse technically, I slightly prefer the sound, and while not all the tracks include this trio, many of them do here. There slightly more "kick" to the drums and a little more "thump" to the bass. Earth Blues is a prime example of this. And "Hear my Train a Comin'" has so much energy and is so cohesive and engaging.

I owe a lot to Hendrix, and although I'm only 29, stealing my father's Hendrix albums in 8th grade thankfully took me away from the Soundgarden/Nirvana thing and introduced me to the blues and classics. I'm thankful that his legacy continues as other generations will be able to appreciate what he did for music. Now if I could only find my tie-dye Hendrix shirt I haven't worn since I was 15.

So while there isn't anything you've never heard here, this album helps pass Hendrix along to new generations, and in the end "new" Hendrix albums will only help music. So don't hate on the guy, or his family.

------------

Addendum:

I just want to add that it seems there is a long debate with any artist who releases material after their passing. Tupac, Frank Zappa, John Lennon etc etc...

The sad part of this is that it takes away from the legacy of the artist and places more attention on those handling the artists work after they have died. While this can't be ignored I can't help but think how Hendrix would be rolling in his grave right now upset that this has turned into such banter.

I agree with much of what is stated in the other reviews, but Kramer is doing the best he can, and I can promise you he's not trying to make people angry. He's trying to get the music of Hendrix out there, and that's what I think is great about this.

I also think that anyone else in the position that Janie Hendrix is would make very similar choices and I really don't like the judgements made on Kramer and her. Although cut and pasted etc etc, this is still the music of Hendrix, and it can be listened to enjoyably, and not dissected, unless of course that is your whole purpose in listening to the album.

The Art Romare Bearden Postcards

"A preeminent artist of his generation, Romare Bearden (1911-1988) lived and worked during a period of extraordinary ferment in American society and American art. Why You Ned to Buy Three Days Of The Condor

Three Days Of The Condor

This extraordinarily good movie mixes government intrigue with a normal run-of-the-mill guy, who would have been a computer nerd if the movie had not been set in the mid seventies. Robert Redford is the consummate bookworm, stuck with the rather innocuous job of reading almost everything published in search of hidden word patterns, etc. that operators may have planted in otherwise innocent material, so as to organize covert operations right under the nose of the CIA and the U.S. government. Having submitted a report in which he believes he has found hidden meaning which may jeopardize our way of life, he unwittingly finds himself right in the middle of unimaginable danger, trying to escape from those responsible for the killing of everyone in his office - and being accused by everyone else as being the perpetrator. Top notch development of the story line filled with plot twists and turns, accompanied by excellent acting. Though not overly complicated, viewing the movie a second time greatly enhances the experience due to the intelligent depth of the story. A true masterpiece.

Why You Ned to Buy Loves Rhythm ebook

Loves Rhythm ebook

The highly anticipated book, Love's Rhythm by Lexxie Couper was worth the wait and I loved Nick Blackthorne's story! I thought Nick and Lauren's love story was just beautifully written depicting a love lost due to ambition and circumstances. Seeing Nick again had Lauren remembering her past with Nick and the author did a great job providing background history to show how much they meant to each other and the passion they shared. I felt an emotional connection with the couple and had me rooting for them. After all these years apart, Nick can only think of one woman who he'd like to attend a wedding with, the one that he let go. That was so romantic and just melted my heart. Nick and Lauren would still have to deal with some issues such as her "secret" and also his being a rockstar before getting their happy ending and the ending was perfect! It was sweet and romantic as it should be and well deserved. I hope there will be a story for Josh in the future.

Fabulous!

Why You Ned to Buy iHome iD83BZC App Enhanced 30 Pin Speaker

iHome iD83BZC App Enhanced 30 Pin Speaker

I recently received this iHome clock radio stand for my iPod and I really like it.
I purchased my first iHome portable speaker system for my iPod years ago.
It is a mini boom box design and still works well today 6-7 years later.

Not too long ago, I added an iHome iD37 alarm clock stand to my collection.
I use it nightly to charge my iPhone and use it as my alarm. It works great
and doesn't take up much room on the nightstand.

That prompted me to get this iHome product, the iD83. The iD83 is a larger
version of the iD37 with the added features that being bigger it is capable of
holding my iPad stable even when it is in the case I have on it. My case on my iPad
is a Belkin Snap Shield Thin Perforation Case for Apple iPad 2 (Gray)
and I use an iPad smart cover to protect the screen. Even with the extra bulkiness
the iPad sits on the iD83 without any problems.

The iD38 has good sound and all the other features I have come to expect with
iHome devices. This includes the iOS alarm and radio apps that can be purchased
for free on the Apple App store.

This is another great product from iHome and I recommend.

A Piece of American Music History

Days After I Buy This Blind But Now See Biography

Blind But Now See Biography

This book didn't win "Biography of the Year" by the Indie Book Awards for nothing. What a great book about the man behind the music in telling the story of Doc Watson. The quote from Tommy Emmanuel sums it all for me regarding Doc Watson, "Doc's contribution is deep. He has an unwavering authenticity in his playing, in his singing, and in his character." And for those who are not aware of Tommy Emmanuel, Tommy is perhaps one of the most talented guitar players alive today, in the same league as Michael Hedges. So this quote carries some weight in the music world.

The book is an excellent piece of American Music History. Dr. Kent Gustavson has done justice with this body of work and deserves credit for persevering this legacy. The book is so enthralling it is hard to stop reading, very insightful into the life and times of such a caring and humble man. Thank you Doctor for bringing this treasure to light for us to enjoy and appreciate!

Agree with NY Times, Fanfare Reviews

Why You Ned to Buy American Piano 1900 1930 Richard Zimdars

American Piano 1900 1930 Richard Zimdars

I'm pleased to agree with the NY Times, William Bolcom, Fanfare, etc.

Highly recommended, indeed. Zimdars' recording of the Ives 1st Sonata is absolutely riveting, performed with aplomb, assurance and absolute architectural control. This is an adrenaline-charged voyage through the exhilarating realm of this masterpiece. The Copland Piano Variations is another difficult-to-understand piece requiring careful study, and return study, even for the most adroit pianist. The more one returns to it, the more one sees. Zimdars' singular comprehension and perception make the music come alive through a fresh, exciting lens to someone like me who has performed this piece many times over the years. The grandeur and bold rhetoric of the Cowell and Rudhyar pieces are communicated with absolute authority.

The one-star review of this CD by Jordan Waring is likely to remain a minority opinion. To provide Amazon customers alternate opinions to mine and Mr. Waring's, three others follow, including one from composer William Bolcom, recipient of the 1978 Pulitzer Prize for music:

"...this has not only included Charles Ives, which he plays superbly with the right kind of Brahmsian nuance that most pianists miss, but also Dane Rudhyar, Roy Harris, Aaron Copland...but what makes it more remarkable is that Zimdars has gone to some length to play more than just the notes of these pieces. The note-perfect but uninhabited renderings of so much recent music have been the bane of new-music interpretation for such a long time, and what is rare about Zimdars is his showing of many levels of musical poetry beneath the surface. - William Bolcom, Oct. 15, 2010

"He displays breathtaking chops... at first, the listener is staggered by Zimdars' potent manual dexterity, but by the end of the Sonata [No. 1], it is Ives's music that has taken over our attention... Bringing this music to life is an even stronger form of musical virtuosity. Of the several pianists who have essayed it on records, only Joanna Macgregor...has come close to Zimdars. Whereas MacGregor seems more poetic and imaginative at a few moments, her performance does not leave us shaking our heads in wonder, as this one does...Zimdars approaches the music [Copland. Piano Variations] with a measured tread; his performance takes a full minute longer than any others I have heard...I had never cottoned to Copland's Variations, and now I know why: the piece makes more sense in this thoughtful performance--even compared to Copland's own 1935 recording." -- Fanfare Magazine,Jan/Feb 2010, James North

"Bringing these four elements together would not be an easy task for any pianist; ...Ives and Rudhyar are notorious for their extreme level of difficulty... his interpretation of this gargantuan work [Ives Sonata #1] is wonderfully clear... Zimdars does an exceptional job following the thread of Ives' argument and, on the whole, not getting bogged down in the details, numerous to the extent of being seemingly irresoluble. His Copland is crisp, on point, and true to the way Copland himself played this music; Henry Cowell strove to bring out the unique harmonic properties of his tone clusters and did not want them to be treated as mere banging. This requires a special kind of touch, and Zimdars has it; just listen to his take on The Hero Sun. Rudhyar's Third Pentagram is well plotted, expansive, architectonic, and vaguely spiritual in the way it should be." -- Allmusic website, August 2009, Dave Lewis

Great Deals Of Your Great Name Paul Wilbur

Your Great Name Paul Wilbur

Prime Cuts: Great I Am, Song of the Beautiful Bride, Glory Came Down

It is interesting where singer-songwriters find their inspiration. Many have often found their creative muses in the happenstances of personal and church relations; others were inspired to write after being piqued by a testimony, a conversation, a film, a newspaper article, a book or a sermon. Yet, other songs are birthed out of the writer's own tales of struggles and pains. For Paul Wilbur, it is clear that the Hebrew Scriptures (or the Old Testament) are his major afflatus. Wilbur, in the words of Charles Haddon Spurgeon, bleeds Bibline. These 11 cuts are so soaked in the grand truths espoused by the Old Testament that they drip with a penetrating cry to us to take Hebrew Bible more seriously. This comes as no surprise as Wilbur is a Messianic Christian. This means that Wilbur believes that it is never surreptitious that God would call Israel out of all the nations of the world. And out of Israel came Jesus the Messiah of whom all Jews as well as Gentiles are called to obeisance. Thus, deep within Wilbur's heart expressed through his own music, there is a deep passion for Israel as well as the nations to be reconciled in the worship of Jesus. Whether or not one agrees with Wilbur's dispensational theological paradigm, "Your Great Name" is choke full of songs steeped in the motifs, images, phrases and ideas from the Old Testament giving us a rich trove of Biblically-driven worship songs. Such an approach is not novice to Wilbur: ever since his 1990 Integrity Music debut "Up to Zion," Wilbur has always infused Hebraism into his style of modern worship music. And to season his recordings with an even more Jewish flavor, three of his former records ("Shalom Jerusalem," "Jerusalem Arise" and "Lion of Judah") were even recorded in Jerusalem on their important festive days.

Unlike his preceding live records, "Your Great Name" is his first studio recording in 20 years. However, patterning after his 2010 live album "Desert Rain," this album is again thematically focused around a major motif conjured up from the Old Testament-this time around it is "the name of Yahweh." And just like his more recent records, there is a fuller sound created by an amalgamation of the sounds of the orchestral and the rhythmic of modern worship. Like the unfolding of a James Horner-movie soundtrack, album opener "Song of Ezekiel" is a sprawling and dramatic cinematic orchestral piece calling us back to how God unveils the power of His Name via at Ezekiel's Valley of Dry Bones. The prophet Ezekiel is not the only prophet evoked, Isaiah's new exodus message is at the cynosure on "Prepare the Way" (a track that could actually work as a Christmas worship song across churches). While the story of Moses and the burning bush shadows behind "Great I Am." Reverently introduced with just vocals and piano before it is joined by a bevy of strings, "Great I Am" is a beautiful ballad about the worship of God's name that causes the demons to flee and the mountains to crumble.

One of the reasons why Wilbur is such an endearing worship leader lies in vocal prowess. While many male worship leaders have a light tenor, Wilbur possesses a full-bodied Fernando Ortega operatic base. Trained in high-Italian opera in Milan, Italy, Wilbur utilizes his pedigree well: when he hits the low notes there is such a gravitas of emotional depths that send shimmers down one's soul. This is most evident in the guitar driven "Who is Like You." And when it is time to soar, listen to some vocal-power exuberance especially on "Glory Come Down." However, Wilbur is at his vocal best with the climax-building worship pop ballad "Nobody Like You." Starting off soft and slow before building and building up his vocal intensity this is a track where you can hear Wilbur in his full vocal glory.

Vocal gymnastics aside, one song not to be missed is "Song of the Beautiful Bride." Keying on the Biblical theme that we are the bride of Christ made up of various nations this song is a passionate call for all of us to be united in reflecting the light of our coming bridegroom. All in all, "Your Great Name" is not just one of your average worship albums. The Messianic worship songs steeped in the language of the Old Testament is itself a reason to warm up to this album. Add to this Wilbur has a gorgeous voice; it's one that truly makes songs exalting the great name of Yahweh even more majestic and contagious.

Days After I Buy This Fisher Price Cradle Swing Little Snugabunny

Fisher Price Cradle Swing Little Snugabunny

I can't find a thing wrong with this swing, it is great. My daughter was born at 5.8 lbs and she fits in it wonderfully. I love how it will recline to a pretty well flat position for her, so I don't have to worry about the length of time she is in it.(Newborns and especially babies that small need to lay flat rather than inclined for too long cause their head will fall forward and could close their airways.)Since she was so small the swing speed setting even on the lowest was too fast for her, but that wasn't an issue. All we had to do was lay a blanket over her and let it drag on the floor, it slows it down just enough. The fabric is so lush and soft she absolutely loves it and so do I. She would lay there in it content all day if I would let her. They don't specify whether you can let you baby sleep in it or not, probably for liability sake, however the way I figure it, if the baby is laying flat on its back (and it is still young enough to not wiggle and turn its head everywhere) I can't see the harm in it. I don't let her sleep in it during the night, but during the day I don't have any problems with it at all. The main reason I picked this swing over a few other options that Fisher Price has available right now is two things. It is better than the Fisher Price Starlight Papasan Cradle Swing because it has a 5 point harness instead of a 3 point. If you read the reviews on the other one, this is something a lot of people bring up as an issue. I want the safest thing I can get for my baby, 5 point is best! And it is better than the Fisher Price My Little Lamb Cradle n Swing because it is able to plug into the wall outlet which the other will not do. It is a little more expensive than those, but for those two things, it is well worth it I think. It doesn't have a baby tray but that was fine for me, I rather not have one anyways. My babies never really use those things, they just collect grime to have to clean off, and they are a pain to have to work to get your baby in and out around. I like the mirror dome and the mobile over the other swings as well, I think they seem more practical for a baby. It was super easy to put together, I did it all by myself in about 20 minutes or so. Their are a ton of other features I could comment on but I wont. I think I mentioned most of the important things. Basically for me and my babies needs, it is perfect so far.

Days After I Buy This Motorola S305 Bluetooth Headset Microphone

Motorola S305 Bluetooth Headset Microphone

I own another pair of the Motorola Bluetooth headphones. I enjoy them, but they consistently lose connection when used. I read some reviews concerning these and thought that I'd try upgrading. They connect pretty well to my iTouch as well as my phone. I've managed to place my iTouch in a bedroom and walk away, around 20ft, and still had my connection. I forgot that I didn't have the iTouch even with me. I tried it out with my phone by placing a call. The other person said that she could hear me very well. The battery life seems to be good as well. I charged them and they've sat for awhile and still held a charge.

The ONLY two negatives that I've come across so far is that:
1. I'm not real crazy about the fit. Yes, you can't really tell that you have them on, but they are very loose. Comfortable, but now I can understand why the hook over the ears.
2. The older headphones had multiple colored lights that could tell you what was going on. A minor detail, but it helped knowing when it was charging, syncing, and connected. There are tones that you can hear, but I've found that I need to push the power button while the headphones are off so that I can find it. So the tones don't really do much for me. The smaller buttons are also a little difficult to find, but I really don't have as much of a problem with them.

Bose%C2%AE QuietComfort%C2%AE Acoustic Cancelling%C2%AE Headphones

I got these headphones strictly for their jerk-cancelling properties and they are a life-changer.

In addition to the chainsaw or other construction noises that begin and end precisely in the time I have to take my nap on my deadline days, my neighborhood frequently has people who park in it, right outside our houses, or not even that close, and play that annoying low bass on their car stereos, with their windows open, for all to hear.

I like to joke that I am only hostile, not violent, but this can make me feel homicidal, having this thump-thump-thump attack my existence. One should reasonably be able to presume that the sounds they hear in their house are house sounds and not the house-foundation-shaking stylings of "'Eff' Da Ho." These headphones are incredible -- from what I've seen in reviews on the web, the best there is -- and make that a reality.

Thank you, thank you, Dr. Bose!

Great Album

After I Buy Femme Fatale

Femme Fatale

Simply put, Femme Fatale is the best dance/pop album I have ever heard. Coming from an over-50 person, that is quite a claim. I am not a Britney fan at all and will never buy her previous albums. But this collection has a special magic that I have not heard in pop music in years. It's indeed quirky and clever, but most of all it's melodic and complex. It certainly has its autotune effects, but it actually helped smooth her sometimes affected delivery. I have been playing Femme regularly for almost a year and am still dissecting harmonies hidden in its delicious chord progressions. "Inside Out" may be the best single of the lot. But don't skip over anything, they all work beautifully together. Britney really worked hard to make this her statement, and it shows. And to her credit, her singing is far better here then on previous albums... she's lighter, spacial and less groan-y.

Don't be afraid to listen, you may love it as much as I did.

With the passenger seat slid back, with only one click until fully locked back, it slides very nicely under the small Access Cab seat!! My 6' friend was super comfortable in the passenger seat. You can put things on top of the box, so it's not a big barrier to carrying cargo. I'm going to move it to my side of the cab, just so 3rd passengers can sit not behind me.

This thing is SUPER loud if you want it to be. It tones down nicely and is a very, very nice sub.I've got it hooked up to a 250 watt amp and I have the gain down to 1/4 of the max power - and it still sounds amazing!

I listen to hard rock, jazz, rap, classic rock, sports radio, seriously just about everything - that's why I went with a sealed enclosure.

I get good deep bass, that's solid and clean. I have it tuned down so I can hear fantastic bass, but it's not loud at all outside my truck, a great feature if you want to stay inconspicuous and still enjoy quality sound.

It's stealth looking too. There is just one side that's branded "Pioneer", but you can't see it in my truck, it looks like a random box. Very nice.

This is a fantastic buy, it can be whatever you want it to be. 100% satisfied with this purchase.

Why You Ned to Buy Sony DREX12iP BLK Phone Headset

Sony DREX12iP BLK Phone Headset

I bought these a while back at Best Buy. I have had no problems with them at all (that wasn't the result of user error) since buying them. The build quality of everything is exceptional compared to the brands I've used in the past. I use and sometimes abuse them almost daily, and they're still not showing any wear and tear, by now previous headphones would be showing wire or one earbud would start to break and eventually cease playing sounds. I've had no complains about quality when talking with people on the phone and the volume and play/pause/ffw/rw/answer/hangup buttons work great!

I love them. I'm no audiophile in the least bit. The sound quality excellent to my ears, however there are quite a few people complaining about the quality so maybe it's my ears :o) I would definitely highly recommend them to others.

And then there is the music

Why You Ned to Buy Single Man Original Picture Soundtrack

Single Man Original Picture Soundtrack

The music to "A Single Man" is exceptional. It is perhaps the most beautiful soundtrack I have ever heard. There are two different composers who capture
George's (Collin Firth) emotional roller coaster. Abel Korzeniowski and Shigeru
Umebayashi should have gotten best musical score at the Academy Awards. Tom Ford
who directed, wrote the best parts of the screen play and produced it should have received best picture, best director in 2010. I am sure Tom Ford was instrumental in the music also as far as what he wanted to convey in the music emotionally, as he did frame by frame
to perfection in his screen play. The violins are haunting through out the main
theme. You can visualize every scene in the movie, just through the music. I can't say enough good things about the soundtrack and the movie.
I give it my highest rating and of course, I bought the movie too.

So Crazy I Knew I Could Break Thru With You

Great Deals Of Just Kids Patti Smith

Just Kids Patti Smith

I just finished reading Patti Smith's book Just Kids and I loved it so much I just had to share this story.

In 1973, my boyfriend was in the band Eightballs, and every Sunday night they shared the bill with the New York Dolls at the Mercer Arts Center in NYC. I was in college at the time, but I would hop on the bus outside the school gates and take the 2 hour ride into Manhattan, pick up the subway at Port Authority, exit on 4th by the Waverly Theatre, and then walk the 8 blocks or so to the Mercer Arts Center. By then it was nighttime and in the winter it was cold.

The night would open with an unknown poet named Patti Smith. She would sit on the floor playing a toy piano and read her poetry and sometimes sing a little diddy. Her entourage included a woman I thought was her girlfriend. Patti wore all black and had a beatnik vibe about her. She was not friendly towards me or my friend Janet who was the girlfriend of the bass player of Eightballs, (Janet and I are still friends to this day), and quite honestly, we did not extend ourselves towards her. In truth, Patti Smith seemed kind of scary and off limits. After her set, she would take off, and a band from Long Island called Teenage Lust would do their set complete with red boas and black lingerie.

My impression of Patti Smith at the time was that she was a lesbian drug addict. What I found out from reading her book was that not only was she as straight as an arrow in both drugs, drink, and sexuality, the woman I thought was her lover was actually her sister.

Patti Smith's book, Just Kids, is brilliantly written. As she tells her tale of love and life with Robert Mapplethorpe, I am sorry I didn't take the moment to smile and say hello back in the days of the Mercer Arts Center. I was 17 at the time, and more interested in dancing and boyfriends, and college life. I had no idea what was happening in Patti Smith's world which was full of dedication to art and poetry. We really were existing on two completely different planes. However, our paths did cross, and I am grateful I had a glimpse of her journey firsthand. It turns out that we are both from New Jersey (me, north, she south) and come from close knit and supportive families.

Just Kids is truly a love story. A love story where the leading character is art. It is beautifully written and heartfelt. I can still picture Patti Smith so vividly from back then, and after reading her story I feel honored that she opened herself up for all the world to see, hear, and feel. Thank you, Patti.

Love it - buying a second one for another TV

Great Deals Of Sony BDP S590 Blu ray Player Wi Fi

Sony BDP S590 Blu ray Player Wi Fi

This is my first blu ray player to go along with my new HDTV and Soundbar.

I tested this player with some blu ray movies which have great sound and picture quality like LOTR, Inception and Dark Krnight. The picture and sound quality delivered was awesome.Load time has been around 15 seconds. But that is at the starting only.. so not a big issue. I am using HDMI for all my connectivity.

I have also used this BluRay player as a streamer. It is great. The wireless connectivity is hassle free.It quickly identified the network. And the setup was easy.I have tried Youtube, NetFlix, Vudu and Crackle and it has been a great experience.

Other great thing is that it also plays a wide format of video files on the USB(more than many other leading Smart TVs). There are two USB connectors(One is hidden in front).

The remote is sleek and intuitive..

So far I had great experience with this product and recommend to anyone.

Stirring accompaniment to a remarkable Herzog film

Days After I Buy This Rescue Dawn Music Motion Picture

Rescue Dawn Music Motion Picture

First of all, this film blew me away. I went because I think Christian Bale is the best actor of his generation. His Dieter Dengler, though, unique to say the least, and I was blown away by how different from the typical "hero" the character and thus the brilliant performance were. But I also realized, even during the movie, that the soundtrack was deepening and adding to the characterization and the overall impact of the picture. It was never distracting, and did not call attention to itself for itself, which I think the best soundtracks avoid. Yet, this music stands alone so beautifully and still manages to be evocative of the upbeat spirit of what could have been a downbeat story. It is uplifting and transporting.....just, as I imagine, the real-life Dengler was, and how he survived. It's a perfect match for a near-perfect movie. Bravo, Mr. Bedelt!

Great CD.

Days After I Buy This The Best of Fuel

The Best of Fuel

It may seem a little pre-mature for a band with only 3 albums to release a "best of" collection...but my guess is that this CD was released either to fulfill a contract obligation, or because of the fact that Fuel's lead singer recently left the band (though the group intends to continue on) and this is their way of closing a chapter in their career.

From 1998-2004, this CD contains just about every song that Fuel released as a single. From their first album, there are popular songs like "Shimmer" and "Sunburn" and the lesser known songs like "Jesus Or A Gun" and "Bittersweet". Then the group's second album is well represented with "Hemorrage In My Hands", "Bad Day", "Innocent" and "Last Time". Finally, there are songs from the group's final album with their original singer, such as "Falls On Me", "Won't Back Down" and "Quarter". This collection contains no new songs or unreleased songs (so it's strictly for the casual fan). The only song this CD is missing is "Million Miles" from the 3rd album, but that single didn't become very popular so I guess it can be over-looked.

As a fan who owns and loves all 3 of Fuel's albums, I can tell you that if you enjoy this collection all the way through, you should seriously consider picking up each of their albums. The group hasn't written a bad song once in their career, and some of their best stuff never even became a hit. But if you only need a few of their hits, then this collection has it all!

Great Deals Of Pocket Gems Tap Pet Hotel

Pocket Gems Tap Pet Hotel

I have used this case for 2 months and am quite satisfied. The locking pins are now attached to the case and cannot come off (earlier reviews complained about them falling off). I was a bit worried about the case leaking so, like an earlier reviewer, I first filled it with paper towels and submerged it in a bowl of water for one hour - no leaks - and then tried it with my iPhone. I must admit I am not willing to put my new phone in it (for fear of leaks) but have quite successfully used my old iPhone. It plays well under the water while I swim laps and good music makes lap swimming so much more enjoyable. It usually takes me 2-3 lengths of the pool (stopping at each end) to get the fit just right (the height of the case on my arm, the ear pods successfully in place, the ear pod wires out of the way of my arms) but once it is all working it is good for the 40 minutes I am in the pool. Others have suggested that the case may deteriorate with age so I am keeping an eye on it. So far so good. I would buy this again.

Didn't want to like it and don't - because I LOVE IT!

Days After I Buy This Footloose

Footloose

I just skimmed the one-star reviews decrying the messing with of a classic. When I rented this I was skeptical and thought I was going to be among that group as I was just a very young - under 21 - adult for the first go-around. I've seen what Hollywood can do to a classic TV show like Dukes of Hazzard and also The Brady Bunch and some remakes of other movies have been less than decent. So I was not about to plunk down my hard-earned at Walmart money to see basically a "High School Musical" or "Glee" dumb-down of this in the theater.
I have to say that I was impressed at the faithfulness this rework exercised - like a great cover of a favorite song. While the time-frame of the story is set in the present time, it's the same. I like how they revisit some of the original music of the 1984 but give it a new twist. The acoustic rendition of "Holding Out For A Hero" was superb. Also I like a few of the changes for some of the scenes such as the racing of the school buses in place of the chicken game with the farm tractors, the dance at the drive-in instead of the hamburger joint and the dance lesson scenes for the cowboy kid were adorable. Making changes like these does not diminish the movie in anyway, there is not need to make a carbon copy, no more than Whitney trying to make a country version of "I Will Always Love You", her rendition captures the spirit of that song.
While the original movie is still and always will be my classic, there are some elements that give this version an advantage over the original:

The Opening: The tragic car wreck and what led up to it and the subsequent laws that were passed as a result. Here we see that the laws being passed in the wake of the tragedy came from love and genuine concern for the well-being of the adolescents from a heart-broken community.

The Court Scene: The concern stemming from the heartbreak from the loss is once again communicated by the preacher when Ren wants to appeal against the no-dancing law. The original movie paints the adults as oppressive and uncaring toward the youth because you don't see that love and concern that spawned the law, also the committee are rather condescending with Ren in the original. In this remake, the preacher sounds empathetic and sensitive to what Ren is asking for. Overall, the court scene in the remake is rendered much better in my opinion.

Preacher/Daughter Showdown Scene: Here we see that the daughter is not merely being a rebel, she - like her mother - are frustrated by him, that because of losing his son he is over doing it in trying to protect her to the point that he is basically smothering her.

Preacher and Ren Scene: Finally Ren's asking the preacher if he can take his daughter to the dance that was going to happen anyway in the neighboring town since Bomont was to remain a no-dance town. Here we see the preacher and the person he considers his enemy beginning to see eye to eye.

I like how this movie - though depicting the typical "teenage rebellion" and showing drinking of alcohol and explicit dancing, I feel it's conveys the message that it isn't espousing such behavior but showing how it can lead to bad consequences - the accident - and that while adolescents may want to "act stupid" as Ren said in the courtroom, there is a way to do it without harming yourself. The movie also - like the original - espouses that parents and adults concerned about adolescents have to find that balance where you can set boundaries to protect them but not so much you are stiffing them and even giving them a reason to fight against you.

Congratulations on a job well done.

The Klose Method

Why You Ned to Buy O304 Celebrated Clarinet Complete Edition

O304 Celebrated Clarinet Complete Edition

I have purchased three different HMDX Jam speakers like this one. I was amazed by the loud volume, this little thing can rock the whole room louder than most cheapy computer speakers. The first time i heard it was a gray one... after reading all the other reviews, and other folks complaining about the duh duh sound you hear... i realized i was happy with mine, and had no hiss, no duh duh duh sound, no battery life problems.. here is the thing, on the bottom right of the JAM speaker jar is a small rectangle sticker. I have seen 2212 and 2612 and 2712
the price of the item seems to affect which version release of the hardware you receive
the the 2612 and 2712 look the same on the unit itself... only the sticker on the case is different... but on my 2712 version jam speakers there is no problems at all.
consider contacting the seller and asking exactly which version of the jam speaker you will get.
im happy with all off them , and you do get what you pay for.
and if you use an i-phone. then im sorry.
i have had no problems, and i do not use apple devices
