Stirring accompaniment to a remarkable Herzog film

Days After I Buy This Rescue Dawn Music Motion Picture

Rescue Dawn Music Motion Picture

First of all, this film blew me away. I went because I think Christian Bale is the best actor of his generation. His Dieter Dengler, though, unique to say the least, and I was blown away by how different from the typical "hero" the character and thus the brilliant performance were. But I also realized, even during the movie, that the soundtrack was deepening and adding to the characterization and the overall impact of the picture. It was never distracting, and did not call attention to itself for itself, which I think the best soundtracks avoid. Yet, this music stands alone so beautifully and still manages to be evocative of the upbeat spirit of what could have been a downbeat story. It is uplifting and transporting.....just, as I imagine, the real-life Dengler was, and how he survived. It's a perfect match for a near-perfect movie. Bravo, Mr. Bedelt!

  1. Moving, yet relaxing music. Purchased the CD because I heard one song at the beginning of a movie that came on television. The entire CD is great though and I highly recommend it.
If you could fly, this would be the music you'd hear in your head! Ethereal is the best way to describe it.

  2. As a film score enthusiast, I am always amazed at the talent of some of todays composers. Mr. Badelt has written a movie symphony for this score and as I read in other reviews, the music stands on it's own because of the richness of the themes, and the orchestral colour. Well done Mr. Badelt. I discovered your talent in the soundtrack for the Time Machine. That music also has some soul stirring music.

I would recommend both soundtracks highly to all fans of motion picture scores.

  4. You need to watch the movie first. The emotion from the music and the knowledge of the story behind it is phenomenol. People in my office love the music and many wanted to know what was playing.

  6. Rescue Dawn is easily one of the most impressive score of 2007. Badelt has composed very pleasant themes for this one. I can keep listening to it over and over without getting bored. Absolutely recommended.

  7. This is an excellent evocative soundtrack to accompany the emotional journey through incredible hardship made by Dieter Dengler as an American prisoner of war in remote Laos during the Viet Nam conflict. Much of the music reminds me of the particular scene during the film and that achievement is always a sign of an effective combination of sound and vision.
